WHAT does MAYOR BLOOMBERG this of this EDITORIAL on the US GIVING UP their UN VETO? BETTER SAY NO!

This editorial at bloomberg.com wrote this scary comment on the US veto at the US Security Council.  They called for the US to unilaterally give up their veto – along with the other permanent members!  Here’s some low-lights:

This illustrates why the veto for the five permanent members of the Security Council has become an increasingly dangerous anachronism that, as part of larger reforms, should be given up.

We think the U.S. should lead the way by calling for the abolition of the veto and the expansion of the council’s permanent membership to Japan, Germany, India and Brazil. There are other ways of safeguarding its interests — requiring supermajorities, for example, in the council for resolutions calling for the use of force, or mandating a majority of permanent members’ votes for a veto. Such new rules would be more in keeping with professed U.S. values and would play to what should be its diplomatic strong suit: the force of right, not might.

We’re not naive enough to think that these changes will necessarily happen. In fact, because the UN’s charter specifies that any such reforms can only occur with unanimous P5 consent, these probably won’t. But U.S. endorsement of them would win plaudits from aspirants to permanent membership and put the onus of obstruction where it belongs. That would be a diplomatic coup in itself.

I want to know this:  How does Mayor Bloomberg feel about this idea?  Bloomberg is a leader of C40, a super-ICLEI of the 40 largest cities in the world to fight global warming and take positions at foreign conferences.  Of course, it is unconstitutional just like ICLEI.  His Honor even help called for direct World Bank loans to cities that are fighting global warming.

Let’s make this clear:  If any President ever calls for the US to drop its veto at the Security Council, he or she should be impeached and removed from office immediately.  Any other official calling for it should be fired and/or defeated at the polls.  The veto protects us from the kind of intervention by other nations we routinely do around the world.

I want to know, Mayor Bloomberg, do you agree with this editorial?  We know he seeks unconstitutional solutions to global warming:

“The Mayor directed another proposal to national governments, calling on them change policies and practices that stymie local action and “to join us in removing the obstacles that may keep us from solving our problems ourselves.”

Finally, Mayor Bloomberg called for cities to be granted access to funding mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol: the Clean Development and the Joint-Implementation mechanisms. “Cities around the world are increasingly demonstrating that they have the desire, the knowledge, and the capacity to make effective use of such assistance,” he said, noting the historic partnership C40 has formed with the World Bank to help finance “green projects” at the city level.

So what is it, Mr. Mayor?  If he favors getting rid of the Security Council veto, he needs to resign his office immediately.
